Alice Dufresne-Reyes, RN, PHN, MSN

Gavilan College

Alice Dufresne joined Gavilan Community College as Coordinator of Student Health Services in January 1994. She provides and oversees a public health model for college health services for 6,000 students. Prior to her appointment at Gavilan College, she was School Nurse for Gilroy Unified School District overseeing special education for preschool and K-6 children. During her tenure, she was Coordinator of Healthy Start, grant and chairperson for the South County Collaborative. This Collaborative, still in operation, represents over 70 agencies in South Santa Clara County and has brought several million dollars in direct services to the community.

Ms. Dufrusne-Reyes also served as the Clinic Manager of the largest refugee clinic in the Nation. During her 11 years there, she oversaw 28 staff, speaking 19 different languages, who provided clinical services focusing on public health issues to more than 50,000 refugees in 259,000 clinic visits. She wrote and implemented several grants from both public and private funding sources. She has co-authored articles related to hemoglobinopathies, Vietnamese Depression Scale, and others. She was honored by being asked by the Centers for Disease Control, Atlanta Georgia as one of 10 persons nationwide to present, and provide input on refugee resettlement. She received Commendation from the Department of Health Services, State of California for outstanding efforts in the area of Refugee Health.

Alice earned an A.S. in Biology and an A.A. in Nursing from Chaffey College. She earned a Bachelors in Nursing and her Public Health Certificate from Sonoma State University. She received her Masters Degree at University of California, San Francisco. In 1995 she completed Professional Health Services Credential- School Nurse at California State University, Sacramento.

She is currently Region 4 chairperson for HSACCC- Health Services' Association California Community College and 2004 State Conference Chairperson. She has been recognized as American Red Cross Volunteer of the Year, and Gavilan Employee of the Month. She is known as a tireless volunteer in her community for the American Cancer Society, Garlic Festival, Special Olympics, and local public schools and sports

Alice has spent 28 years working full time in Nursing and 26 of those working collaboratively with her husband, Valentine Reyes, Infection Control Manager for Santa Clara Valley Medical Center
