Robert Gabriner is currently the Dean of Research, Planning and Grants at City College of San Francisco. He has held that post for the past nine years. Prior to coming to City College of San Francisco, he was a faculty member in the Peralta Colleges teaching American history, specializing in 20th century labor, immigrant and ethnic history. He has been on the Executive Board of the Research and Planning Group since 1997 where he served in many positions including President in 2002/3. He is currently the RP’s Information Officer.
During the 1980s, he was the president of the Community College Council of the California Federation of Teachers and represented the interests of 17,000 faculty at the state and system-wide level. He was one of the major architects of the Community College Reform Act of 1988 serving as chair of the statewide coalitionCalifornians for Community Collegesthat worked with legislative leadership to craft the language contained in AB 1725.
Gabriner has a bachelors degree in history from Cornell University; a Master Degrees in American History from the University of Wisconsin, and a doctorate in Higher Educational Policy and Administration from the University of California, Berkeley.
