Thad R. Nodine, Ph.D., is senior writer and editor at the Institute for the Study of Knowledge Management in Education (ISKME). He has over a decade's experience in education and higher education policy, from research and analysis to writing and strategic communications. Most recently, he is co-author of: Knowledge Management in Education: Defining the Landscape (ISKME); "Costs and Benefits of the Workaround: Inventive Solution or Costly Alternative?" in International Journal of Educational Management; "Using External Accountability Mandates to Create Internal Change," in Planning for Higher Education; and "What Schools Can Teach the Corporate World: Balancing People, Processes, and Technology in Education," in KM Review.

Nodine has managed or contributed to a wide range of writing and research projects, including a national study of the most promising performance-based practices of urban school districts, a nationwide research project on information-based decision-making within community colleges, and the development of a performance-based report card for higher education. He has been managing editor of several on-line and print publications for the National Center for Public Policy and Higher Education, including Measuring Up: The State-by-State Report Card for Higher Education (2000, 2002, and 2004 editions) and Losing Ground: A National Status Report on the Affordability of Higher Education. He conducts an annual policy scan of the governors' state-of-the-state addresses for the National Governors Association. He has been a reporter covering higher education and state politics in Colorado, a speech writer for U.S. Senator Lawton Chiles of Florida, and a board member of Santa Cruz City Schools. Dr. Nodine has a Ph.D. in literature from the University of California at Santa Cruz and a bachelor's degree in government from Oberlin College.
