ACT's COMPASS: A Computerized Placement and Assessment System

Jennifer Kelly

Our long time friend of the iJournal, ACT, and this edition’s sponsor provides an outline of the benefits of Compass and how to access information on this excellent product for higher educational institutions.

ACT logo COMPASS Logo

COMPASS™ is a comprehensive computerized placement and diagnostic assessment system—supporting student success through course placement, advising, and retention services.

COMPASS is available in two versions: the Windows® version and the Internet version.

COMPASS offers placement and diagnostic testing in mathematics, reading, and writing—and now includes placement testing for English as a Second Language (ESL) students. ACT has combined into one complete package the COMPASS and ESL measures and advising, course placement, and retention services.

COMPASS e-Write 2-8 and COMPASS e-Write 2-12 are direct writing assessments used to evaluate student writing samples using cutting-edge electronic scoring technology. Delivered via the Internet, COMPASS e-Write scores are returned immediately following submission.

The new ESL e-Write is a direct writing assessment specifically designed for English as a Second Language students (available in Internet Version only).

COMPASS™ and ESL placement measures have been approved for Ability-to-Benefit (A.T.B.) use. COMPASS™ and ESL placement measures have been fully approved by the California Community Colleges Chancellor's office (with the exception of COMPASS e-write and ESL e-write).

Please feel free to contact Jennifer Kelly at 916-631-9200 or jennifer.kelly@act.org if you have questions or concerns regarding COMPASS/ESL or ASSET.
